Resident Information

For Village residents, not involved in any construction or improvements to their property, you still should be aware of Local Law 1 regarding the Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination Law.

The Village was required to adopt this law by the New York State. The intent of this law is to prevent the discharging pollutants into the storm sewer system which ultimately flows into the Hudson River.

Prohibited items include:

  • Dumping any liquid or contaminants including waste oil, petroleum products or chemicals into catch basins, drainage ditches, waterways or other parts of the storm sewer system.
  • Connecting any sanitary sewers, floor drains, or other wastewater drains into the storm sewer system.

For Village Residents constructing any improvements on their Property including buildings, clearing, grading, paving or other land disturbances, please visit the Construction Activities page.

Village residents are also encouraged to become educated and stay informed about stormwater issues. Further information is available on the Public Education and Resources page.

Laura was working on a water research project, and shared that the link has good information for people to learn why they should always pick up after their pets - so it doesn't pollute water.
