The Village of Castleton-on-Hudson is located in southern Rensselaer County in the beautiful Hudson Valley of upstate New York. It is a residential community located on the east shore of the Hudson River about 10 miles south of Albany, yet it maintains the serenity of an upstate rural town.

Castleton-on-Hudson is about one square mile in area, and has a population of about 1,500 persons and about 500 households. The zip code is 12033. The average size of households is 2.5, the median value of owner-occupied homes is $165,934, and the median household income is $68,489 (2015). The Village offers refuse removal, waste water, and village water. The Castleton Public Library is vibrant, and located at Village Hall.

The Village contains a 40 unit senior citizens apartment building, and has an active Senior Citizen organization that sponsors day trips, activities such as celebrating birthdays, covered dish dinners, and a chicken barbecue for seniors in the community. Also, the Riverside Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, which is an 80 bed skilled nursing facility, is located in Castleton-on-Hudson.

There are two Village parks, Riverfront on the Hudson River, and Schermerhorn at the southern end of Main Street. Schodack Island State Park is one mile south of the Village.

There is an active Kiwanis Club, as well as both Boy and Girl Scout troops, and the Castleton-on-Hudson Main Street Association is a non-governmental volunteer organization in the Village.
