Recently a team of our local Boy Scouts organized by scout William Noll stenciled all 345 catch basins throughout the Village. Will, who is working on his Eagle Scout merit badge, also completed a Stormwater Educational Board located at the entrance of the Village Hall. We encourage everyone to visit this wonderful addition to our ongoing public outreach on storm water awareness.
As a Hudson River water front community, the Village of Castleton-on-Hudson understands and values the importance of our water resources. The river provides us with scenic and recreational enjoyment, transportation and commercial opportunities. In return, we are all stewards of the Hudson River. We owe it to ourselves and future generations to preserve and protect this great river.
Natural hazards have the potential to cause property damage, loss of life, economic hardship, and threats to public health and safety. The Village of Castleton is now part of the Rensselaer County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan.
Hazard mitigation plans are developed before a disaster strikes. The plans identify community policies, actions, and tools for long-term implementation to reduce risk and potential for future losses. For more information, see pdf County Hazard Mitigation Plan (193 KB) .
