Read more: 9J Paving Project Update - Thursday, April 14, 2022
Work continues on Main Street today, Monday, April 11th. Concrete is being poured on our new ADA compliant curbs plus other work is being done. Please keep all cars off Main Street. Thanks for your cooperation.
Main St/9J Paving update: we had a busy day down on Main Street today with lots of curbs getting retrofitted to be handicap accessible. And we are getting two new crosswalks!! Tomorrow, Thursday, April 7th more milling and repair work will be done on Main Street so we ask that no cars be parked on Main St., or Justus Lane during the day. If there are spots available after the trucks leave for the day cars can resume parking on Main Street.
Depending on tomorrow's schedule we may not see the road being milled until next Tuesday but we will keep you informed. Overflow parking is available behind the Noyes Engine House (behind Grant's Auto) and at Sacred Heart Church. Thanks to everyone for their flexibility on this. The entire project will span a few weeks. Some scenes from today:
Starting Wednesday of next week, April 6th, New York State will begin a repaving project on 9J which includes Main Street in the Village. The first step is milling (scraping) the road and that will begin Wednesday. 9J/Main Street will be brought down to a single lane of traffic and there will be no parking on the side of the street that is being milled. Temporary parking has been set up on First Street behind the Noyes Engine House, salt shed, and DPW equipment garage. There will be parking signs posted Tuesday. Further parking is available at Sacred Heart Church. There are also 3 Village parking lots where you can park: next to the new Poke Jar, across from the post office (do not park in the reserved spots) or behind Village hall. If you have any questions please contact Village hall at 518.732.2211 ext 2 or 3 between 9 and 3. We will keep you updated as we learn more details. Thanks for your patience and flexibility during this project.
We will be sending out text blasts to those who are signed up for Emergency Notifications. If you're not already signed up text to: 518.394.8800 and in the message space type Village123 - this will automatically enroll you to receive the text messages.
8:50pm update: Water Main break has been fixed. Water pressure will be coming back gradually over the next few hours. Water may be slightly discolored due to the turbulence of the changes in pressure. No boil water necessary. The Village Water, Wastewater and DPW departments spent many hours in the cold today (and most were covered with mud) getting our water back working. Thanks guys !! Special shout out to the Castleton Fire Department who used their drill night to direct traffic, provide extra lighting and help keep the job site safe. Very much appreciated.
4:30pm update: the crews are still working on the water main break. Water pressure is reduced and won't be back to normal until the break is repaired. Hopefully that will only be a few more hours. At this time there is NO need to boil water. That situation could change. Please avoid Maple Hill Road if possible, it is a single lane near the water tower.
There is a water main break on Maple Hill Road near the water tower. As a result water pressure has been reduced to all Village residents and Town residents who use village water and live between the water tower and the village boundary. We will update the break has been repaired. Any questions please call 518.732.2211 - and select option for the clerk.
Thank You.
